Frequently Asked Questions:

How many sessions of Psychotherapy will I need?

This depends on a variety of factors including: the issues presented, the length of time between the issue presented and seeking treatment, and the severity of the issue. We typically recommend that a client attend weekly sessions for the first month and than this changes to bi-weekly depending on client progress. For maintenance, we recommend monthly sessions after symptoms have entirely abated.

How old are the typical clients you take on?

Shalyn treats individuals ages 7 and up. Rochelle treats individuals ages 10 and up. Sumara treats individuals ages 12 and up. Parents/guardians must give written consent for their child (under 18) to undergo therapy.

Is Psychotherapy covered by insurance?

Fees for Psychotherapy services are covered by most extended health care plans. Please check with your insurance provider for your specific coverage amounts and whether or not you need a referral letter for your insurance company. Fees are paid per session (typically by EMT at the end of the session) and you will be provided with a receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Direct billing is only available for Veterans Affairs- Blue Cross (Shalyn ONLY). EMT, credit card, and cash are all accepted methods of payments.

I do not have insurance, what are my options?

We do provide a reduced fee for those who do not have insurance and for those who have used up their insurance benefits. Receipts not claimed under insurance can be applied towards your yearly income taxes as a medical expense.

As of June 2023, we are able to offer a sliding scale rate for services provided by Sumara. This is income based and preference will be given to those who are unemployed, on ODSP, Welfare, OAS, etc. Please contact us for more information.

Do you accept EAP referrals?

Not at this time. We do offer a reduced rate and sliding scale rates.

What if I am late?

If we can accommodate the time lost we will. However, if we have another client right after we may not be able to make up the time lost. If it is our fault, it will never be taken from your time.

What if I need to change my appointment?

Please give us 48 hours notice. Anything less than 24 hours will be charged at the full rate. Any no-show appointments without notice will be charged at the full rate. Emergencies (proven medical) will not be charged. Any changes to these fees are at the therapists discretion.
